Allison has a long history of partnering with the U.S. Department of Defense to develop propulsion solutions that deliver in the toughest conditions. After initially delivering the first X200™ units in 1960, Allison relaunched production of the transmission in 2020 to meet the U.S. Army’s combat readiness requirements.
Rugged, Fully Automatic Design
The transmission accommodates engine ratings up to 400 hp (298 kW). It offers four forward and two reverse ranges and full-power hydrostatic steering for smooth, efficient steering and control. The X200™ is equipped with electronic controls for use with modern engines and a torque converter with an automatic lock-up clutch for smooth, efficient starts and stops.

Established History of U.S. Military Support
Allison began production of the X1100™ cross-drive transmission in 1979 for use in the U.S. Army’s M1 main battle tank. After more than 44 years of successful operation in the field, production of the X1100™ continues. Allison has a long history of supporting the U.S. Military and its global partners. This relationship is built on Allison’s commitment to deliver unrivaled reliability and durability for the defense end market.
Built for The Demands of Combat
The cross-drive transmission is geared for heavy tracked combat vehicles up to 75 tons, and can accept either a diesel or turbine engine rated up to 1,500 hp (1,118 kW). It offers four forward ranges, two reverse ranges and a cross-drive design that integrates steering and braking into a single compact, rugged unit.

The 3040 MX™ is a cross-drive transmission designed for medium-tracked combat vehicles. It delivers high reliability and powerful performance to meet the decades long, demanding lifecycle of armored combat vehicles.

The 3040 MX™ is equipped with advanced electronic system controls to enable performance optimization. The transmission will accommodate future controls platform evolutions, enabling advancements in system performance over the lifecycle of the vehicle.

The 3040 MX™ was developed based on Allison’s proven X300 propulsion system, which has been integral to the European CV90 and Warrior IFV drivetrain solutions for more than 30 years.
Abrams Main Battle Tank Modernization
In January 2024, Allison received an $83.3 million contract to provide new and upgraded X1100™ transmissions to support Abrams Main Battle Tank variants used by the U.S. Army and Foreign Military Sales customers. Allison will deliver upgraded and new transmissions to meet performance demands of the Abrams tank. The Allison upgrade program combines new content with existing customer hardware to provide a zero-mileage transmission to support the Abrams System Enhancement Package version 3 tanks. Deliveries under this contract began in January 2024 and will continue through December 2024.
Next-Generation Tracked Defense Vehicle
Allison partnered with HST Otomotiv, our licensed manufacturer in Turkey, to deliver the X1100-5A4 cross-drive transmission for integration into the Next Generation T-155 Firtina 155 mm Self-Propelled Howitzer for the Turkish Armed Forces.

M10 Booker Combat Vehicle
The 3040 MXTM will be integrated into the U.S. Army’s M10 Booker Combat Vehicle, one of the U.S. Army’s leading modernization initiatives. The Allison 3040 MX™ cross-drive transmission will enable these vehicles to move faster across difficult off-road terrain while enhancing soldier protection.
