Allison Transmission to Present Latest Technologies at Busworld Türkiye

ISTANBUL, Türkiye, June 2024 – Allison Transmission, a leading designer and manufacturer of conventional, electric hybrid, and fully electric vehicle propulsion solutions, showcased its wide range of products for bus applications at the 10th Busworld Türkiye trade show in Istanbul. Allison featured two recent product introductions, the new 9-Speed fully automatic transmission and the Allison eGen Power® family of fully electric axles, at the trade show. Allison also showcased the T3375R xFETM fully automatic transmission.

Offering a wide range of products, including electric axles for Turkish bus manufacturers, Allison contributes to the efficiency of vehicles used both in the domestic market and exported vehicles.

Allison 9-Speed offered by Turkish bus manufacturers

The Allison 9-Speed transmission was designed to meet the demands of commercial vehicles, such as 8-meter midi buses that require frequent stop-and-go cycles, with increased uptime, improved fuel economy, high performance and low maintenance costs. Since entering production in 2023, the Allison 9-Speed fully automatic transmission is now available in new vehicles from Turkish bus manufacturers. The 9-Speed is offered for bus applications targeting urban transportation and tourism with torque ratings up to 895 newton-meters (N•m) and for vehicles weighing up to 15 tons.

“The new Allison 9-Speed transmission offers superior performance and engine torque for applications up to 1200 N•m,” said Atak Talas, Area Director, Türkiye and Middle East, Allison Transmission. “With the transition from six gears to nine gears, there is an improvement of over 50% in gear ratio due to a wider gear ratio coverage and smaller gear steps compared to an eight- or six-speed transmission, which results in higher performance and lower fuel consumption.”

The Allison eGen Power fully electric axle family contributes to the efficiency of electric buses

The Allison eGen Power family of fully electric axles replaces the vehicle's traditional powertrain components, which provides easy installation and integration into the existing vehicle chassis. eGen Power includes fully integrated electric motors, a multi-speed gearbox, an oil cooler and pump. The technology is compatible with full battery electric vehicles, fuel cell electric vehicles and hybrid applications, providing 100% of motor torque during regenerative braking.

Allison's e-Axle product range has been developed to meet the diverse needs of Allison customers, assessing the electric vehicle capabilities for the demanding requirements of the commercial vehicle market. The newest member of this product range, the eGen Power 85S electric axle, integrates a high-speed electric motor and a two-speed gearbox, while eliminating the need for additional shafts and support structures. This ensures the power pack to be easily integrated between the wheels, providing a valid space advantage for the battery. With continuous power of 304 horsepower (225 kilowatts) and a peak power output of 437 horsepower (325 kilowatts), the eGen Power 85S offers high acceleration capability and high maximum speed, without compromising efficiency and vehicle range, making it one of the most powerful propulsion solutions in its class. Consequently, electric midi buses can provide unique performance, reliability, rapid acceleration and increased maneuverability.

Allison's newest e-axle, the eGen Power 85S, was first announced at Busworld Europe in Brussels last year. In collaboration with Anadolu Isuzu, the eGen Power 85S was introduced with its integration into the Isuzu Novo VOLT fully electric midi bus, which also launched at the fair. This year, at the Busworld Turkey, Isuzu Novo VOLT midibus equipped with Allison's electric axle eGen Power 85S was exhibited for the first time in Türkiye. Additionally, the Isuzu Grand Toro midibus equipped with Allison T3270R xFETM fully automatic transmission was also showcased at the fair. Otokar presented New Navigo T model equipped with Allison 9-Speed fully automatic transmission at Busworld. Otokar Navigo Buses are offered with automatic transmission as standard in the European market.
