Electrified Propulsions

Allison’s Electrification Strategy

Commercial and defense vehicle technology is evolving in order to reduce emissions, improve vehicle efficiency and meet new regulatory standards. Allison’s electrification strategy is focused on leveraging current hybrid technologies, developing new electrified propulsion solutions, and expanding system- level integration capabilities in alternative propulsion.

A History of EV Advancements

Allison has been developing electrified propulsion systems for decades. Our first electric hybrid propulsion system for transit buses was introduced more than 20 years ago. Through our experience with conventional and electric hybrid propulsion technology, we have gained valuable knowledge into the full system integration that electric vehicles require. This makes Allison well-positioned to drive the next generation of propulsion solutions that will reduce emissions and protect the environment.

Exploring the Cutting Edge of Propulsion

Over the last five years, we’ve invested more than $550 million in advancing our EV work, including new product development and forming an eMobility team., We’ve also opened a state-of-the-art manufacturing and testing facilities including our Vehicle Electrification + Environmental Test Center and eGen Power® e-Axle design, test and manufacturing facility in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

Keeping a Pulse on Adoption Trends

Allison monitors electric vehicle adoption rates and market trends to ensure we are ahead of the curve in designing propulsion solutions to meet the needs of the wide range of applications and market segments we serve.

EV adoption remains in its infancy with less than 1% of the globe, excluding China, having adopted the technology to date. Current projections indicate that global electric vehicle adoption will reach 10% by 2028. Allison’s view is that broad EV integration in most end markets, applications and regions will take place over an extended period of time.
